Parish news
The Good Shepherd parish launches on 1 October
On Thursday 1 October, the new parish of the Good Shepherd, Corby, will be launched. Mass will be at 9.30am at St Brendan’s and 7.00pm at Our Lady of Walsingham, with refreshments after both. The churches of Our Lady of Walsingham and St Brendan’s will form one parish. Parishioners are invited to attend and celebrate this step in the life of the Catholic Church in Corby.
Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham
The feast is celebrated on Thursday 24 September. Children and staff from Our Lady’s Primary School will join the 9.30am Mass at Our Lady of Walsingham. Parishioners are welcome.
Confirmation
Fr Mark thanks the families of Confirmation children who attended the parents’ meeting. The parish programme asks for a substantial commitment, and he encourages families to enter into it as a time of renewal, growth and commitment to the Lord.
Readers and Eucharistic ministers
A meeting for readers and Eucharistic ministers from both churches will be held at Our Lady of Walsingham on Tuesday 22 September at 7.00pm. Anyone interested in becoming a reader should let the parish know. Fr Mark and Fr Chris will also invite parishioners to become Eucharistic ministers.
Young Adults Group
The next meeting is Friday 2 October at 7.00pm in St Brendan’s Parish Room, followed by refreshments. Everyone aged 18–35 is welcome. For more information, speak to Fr Chris.
Becoming a Catholic
The RCIA and journeying in faith group begins Monday 5 October at St Brendan’s Church after the 7.00pm Mass. It offers a relaxed setting for anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith.
Marriage preparation
An information evening for couples preparing to marry next year will be held at Our Lady of Walsingham on Tuesday 6 October at 7.00pm. Please give the parish at least six months’ notice wherever you plan to marry in the Church.
Blessing of the graves
The blessing will take place Saturday 26 September at 11.00am. Co-op Darley Dale will provide refreshments.
Second collection
This weekend’s special collection is for Home Mission Sunday, supporting the teaching of the Catholic faith and the spreading of the Gospel in England and Wales.
CAFOD Family Fast Day
Family Fast Day is Friday 2 October. Parishioners are asked to pray, eat simply and give generously. CAFOD envelopes will be available for Gift Aid donations; donations can also be made through CAFOD.
Gift Prayer Group
The group meets on Tuesdays from 7.00pm to 8.00pm in Our Lady’s Parish Room.

From the bishops
Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill
Archbishop John Sherrington welcomed MPs’ decision not to allow the bill to progress and renewed the Catholic Church’s call for a compassionate response to those facing serious illness and the end of life. He thanked those who wrote to MPs and assisted the campaign.
The Holy Land
Archbishop Richard Moth, Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, called for an end to violence in the Holy Land. He said a two-state solution should remain the goal and urged prayer, reconciliation and work for peace.
Diocesan opportunity
The Diocese of Northampton is recruiting a Safeguarding Engagement Worker on a two-year fixed-term contract, 21 hours per week over three days. Details and an application form are on the diocesan jobs page. Applications go to hr.admin@northamptondiocese.org. The closing date is 6 October; interviews are planned for 12 October. The vacancy may close early if enough suitable applications are received.
